Sounds of New York City (SONYC) is an introduction to the study of noise pollution and public health consequences of sound in urban environments. Students sample sounds, study sound waves, build devices to monitor sound, and create smart city technologies that they present at an end-of-program expo. The program integrates engineering, physical and computer sciences, and includes a mandatory component with theater-teaching artists to boost communication and public speaking skills.
