The Jim Baen Memorial Short Story Award is a short fiction contest sponsored by the National Space Society and Baen Books in memory of Jim Baen. Participants are invited to write an original short story of no more than 8,000 words focusing on the near future of manned space exploration, such as moon bases, Mars colonies, and realistic spacecraft.
